Hebrews 8:1
“The main point” gathers the long argument into one decisive assurance: “We have such an high priest.” Hebrews has described the Son as holy, compassionate, appointed by God’s oath, untouched by death’s final power, and able to save completely. The discussion now turns from His qualification to the place and character of His ministry.
Jesus sits at the right hand of “the Majesty in the heavens.” The right hand is the position of royal honor and delegated authority, echoing Psalm 110:1.
The Priest after Melchizedek’s order is also the enthroned Lord. His humiliation has ended, the Father has vindicated His mission, and no earthly or spiritual power can remove Him.
Sitting signifies the completion of His sacrificial offering, not withdrawal from service. Calvary will never be repeated. Yet chapter 8 immediately calls Him a minister in the heavenly sanctuary. The finished sacrifice and active priesthood belong to the same saving work: the One who offered Himself once now represents His people in God’s presence and administers the covenant secured by His blood.
The sentence’s warmth lies in “we have.” Christ is more than the subject of a correct doctrine or a remote figure in heaven. Believers presently possess a living Representative. His throne declares victory; His priesthood directs that authority toward mercy, access, and final restoration. The center of Hebrews is therefore a Person—the crucified, risen, and reigning Son who has not forgotten those He calls His brothers and sisters.
