“Therefore” turns the majesty of chapter 1 into an urgent act of listening. The One who has spoken is Creator, divine King, purifier of sins, and Lord of angels. His identity gives His message incomparable weight; theology in Hebrews changes how His word is heard.
The danger is pictured as drifting past a safe landing. A boat may move almost imperceptibly while no one attends to its course. Spiritual estrangement can develop with the same quietness: the gospel remains familiar while obedience is postponed and competing voices gradually carry the heart away.
The maritime sense of the verb fits the letter’s later imagery of anchor and harbor. Christ’s salvation lacks no holding power; the danger lies in ceasing to fasten attention to what has been received. Because the command is plural, public reading and mutual exhortation help the community keep its bearings under pressure or fatigue.
